LignoFlow® gels successfully demonstrated in polymer electrolytes towards zinc-ion batteries.

A new lignosulfonate−chitosan gel polymer electrolyte was developed for zinc-ion battery chemistries. This research is a result of cooperation between the groups of Mika Sipponen (Stockholm University, Sweden) and Erlantz Lizundia (University of the Basque Country, Spain) and was published in the journal ASC Sustainable Chemical Engineering (ACS Sustainable Chem. Eng. 2023, 11, 6, 2283-2294). The gel polymer electrolyte is a new bio-based solution for the expanding sustainable energy storage landscape.

For developing gel electrolytes, the researchers used lignosulfonate/kraft lignin micellar dispersions created via LignoFlow® technology.

A positive written opinion from PCT

The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) has given Lignoflow a positive written opinion regarding its international application. Accordingly, the invention defined in the claims is novel, considered to involve an inventive step, and considered industrially applicable. The PCT covers 152 countries and gives an additional 18 months from the priority date to expand regional coverage of the patent.

Lignoflow develops sustainable lignin solutions based on this technology platform together with partners.

Lignoflow was selected to participate in the TestDrive Deeptech coach program by Sting

Lignoflow was selected to participate in the TestDrive Deeptech coach program by Sting - the world's best start-up accelerator, located in Stockholm.

Sting's Test Drive is a hands-on training program for teams with early-stage ideas or startups.

Lignoflow is excited to participate and receive input for its business and team development activities.

Scientific publication in Green Chemistry

In a recent publication in the journal Green Chemistry (Royal Society of Chemistry) the Lignoflow team presented a scalable solution to a challenging technological problem related to the production of colloidal lignin particles. The new method overcomes prior limitations such as low mass concentration, poor water economy, and recycling of energy-consuming organic solvents.

These hurdles were solved by combining commercially available lignosulfonates with various technical lignin grades such as softwood kraft lignin and soda lignin from annual plants. According to the published research, aqueous lignin dispersions can be prepared as flowable nanogels at consistencies exceeding 30 wt% via a completely organic-solvent-free process.

This publication confirms our technology towards water-efficient synthesis and sustainable materials based on the LignoFlow® technology.
